“ What a great Yelp find. We were at Kaiser and it was later than normal for dinner. Craving sushi, we found Amami Shima Sushi on Yelp and headed over. We had no problems getting a table for the 4 of us. The restaurant had plenty of people but still had available tables. Seems like many patrons know the workers/owners as so many people were greeting them, shaking their hands, or giving them high fives. That was a good sign. Ordered a lot of sushi, including two omakase dishes. Everything was fresh however I wish the rice were a little softer/fluffier. The omakase was made well and the slices of fish were large on a small bed of rice. One person in our group said they normally see it the other way with a small piece of fish and a lot of rice. I asked for extra ginger and wasabi and was surprised with a huge bowl of it. The ginger was sweet and wasabi soft. Will certainly come back! ”
“ We came on a Saturday night for a birthday. The restaurant is small and intimate, it was full. They pushed together two tables for our party of 6. The fish was fresh and delicious. Those of the party that got rolls enjoyed their food too. ”
“ I came here after seeing their viral omakase on social media. It does looks very impressive, taste pretty good, but I've had it twice and its the same fish both times. It's mainly white and red fish. I saw influencers with other fancy seafood like sea urchin, eel, scallop, salmon etc but definitely not the times I went. I appreciate the fish to rice ratio, with more fish than rice and it's a pretty good deal around $55 at the time I went but because it was the same type of fish, I probably wouldn't' go again. ”
“ The roll was mediocre, but the quality of fish is pretty good! The chirashi would be better served in a bowl (in my opinion). I almost choked on the potency of the fresh wasabi, but it's good stuff. The service was very friendly. The restrooms were pretty clean. ”
“ The fish to rice ratio for their omakase is what dreams are made of. The fish is always great quality. Some of the fish combos in the omakase don't always mesh well together but for the lost part, it's a very solid omakase meal! ”
“ The food here is amazing. The service is quick. The ambience is relaxing. Omakase price wise is best in san Jose ”
“ Still 5 star every time I've dined here. For the price of the omakase set, it was well worth it. The fish is fresh and has no fishy taste. It's very clean and big pieces of fish. I also love the service here. Everyone is so friendly and super helpful and attentive. Also highly recommend trying their specials of the day. We also got hamachi Kama and it's so soft with a nice grilled taste. My only dislike is the parking in this plaza but we went on a Sunday night and surprisingly lots of parking and no wait too. You can utilize the Yelp waitlist here! ”
“ It's been over a year, so it's about time I update my review for Amami Shima! This is our #1, go-to, favorite sushi spot in the South Bay and we are here about once a week. This is not even an exaggeration... I very frequently come here with my friends for girls night dinners and get takeout all the time with my husband. We're here so often I think they already know our orders by heart lol. We love the Lovers Boat and just about every dish we've ever tried. We've never been disappointed by anything here. The omakase is also great deal and great portion. Staff are always super friendly to us and even though they can get really busy, food always comes out quickly and the wait usually isn't too bad when we use the Yelp waitlist in advance. It's obviously not a super extravagant fancy sushi spot but that's what we love about it. I've taken so many of my friends here and I will continue doing so! Super solid sushi restaurant ”
“ Came here to celebrate a friend's new job, and they were nice enough to keep the congrats cake in the fridge for us and bring it out at the end of our dinner! There's usually a wait for this place on weekends, so we joined the waitlist about 15-20 mins before our expected arrival time. Our group ordered 3 sushi rolls to split and a Lover's Boat combo. My favorite was the Romeo and Juliet roll, which had a ton of scallop on top! Overall, prices are reasonable for sushi here (there was a $46 omakase set for 10 pieces of sushi that I was eyeing) and although the fish quality wasn't the absolute best, it's definitely more affordable than some other sushi spots in South Bay! ”
